La reina Sofía juega con un panda gigante durante su visita a la reserva de Chengdu, una de las mayores de este tipo de animales en China y de donde proceden Bingxing y Hua Zui Ba, la pareja de pandas gigantes que vivirán a partir del próximo mes de septiembre en el Zoo de Madrid, después de que el país asiático confirmara su alquiler a una empresa española como gesto de buena voluntad, durante la visita de Estado a China de los Reyes.
La Reina tuvo ocasión de ver al oso macho, Bingxing, que en castellano significa 'Estrella de hielo', mientras que en otra zona del parque, se encontraba la hembra, Hua Zui Ba ('Boca coloreada').
Los dos osos vivirán en el zoo madrileño a partir del próximo mes de septiembre, cuando está previsto su traslado desde la reserva de Chengdu, en la región de Sichuan, donde se concentran buena parte de los alrededor de 1.600 pandas gigantes que viven en libertad.
Tomó en brazos a una cría. Doña Sofía, en declaraciones a los periodistas, dijo sentirse 'emocionada' por el hecho de que Madrid vuelva a contar con osos pandas después de la muerte de Chulín en 1996.
Tras hacer un pequeño recorrido por el recinto donde están en cautividad algunos osos, la Reina tuvo la oportunidad de tomar en brazos a una cría que no llegaba al año de edad.
'No la puedo describir. Era como un peluche. Es monísimo, precioso. Estoy encantada', explicó Doña Sofía, quien tuvo que ponerse una bata y unos guantes para coger al panda.
Antes de ver a los animales, la Reina presidió el acto de entrega del certificado y de los carnés de identidad de los dos osos cedidos por la Asociación de Parques Zoológicos de China a la empresa española Parques Reunidos como gesto de buena voluntad por la visita de los Reyes.
Este acuerdo se enmarca dentro de un convenio que han firmado ambas instituciones para cooperar en la conservación e investigación de esta especie.
